OpenX consultant Erik Geurts

Why should you hire me as your OpenX consultant? I’ve got a great deal of OpenX experience and I’ve helped over 200 clients on a large number of OpenX projects. I’ve been using OpenX myself since the fall of 2003, and in May 2004 I joined the OpenX Community Forum, looking for extra information. I found out that I could also answer the issues that other people were posting. In 2005, clients started to ask me for OpenX support, and this turned out to be so much fun, that it eventually resulted in starting my own consulting firm in early 2008. I’m one of the few recognized OpenX Community Consultants in the world.

I’ve worked for many clients in the last few years, and some of them gave me permission to list their quotes below:

  • Auto Racing Daily is a world leading web site with news headlines and background stories about global and local racing events. I worked with Mark, the owner of AutoRacingDaily.com and his programming team in California to implement the OpenX ad server, including some of the more advanced features. Before we installed Openx, the site used to depend on Google AdSense for revenues, with the AdSense codes hard coded into the pages. It was impractical to sign up a new advertiser, since that meant having to recode the pages at the start and the end date of the campaign. Plus there was no reporting on how often ads were displayed and clicked. It took only a week from the initial contact with Mark to get OpenX installed and configured, and all the ad placements on the site running through OpenX. At first we implemented the existing AdSense inventory, which also provided opportunities for some end-user training. We then put together an advertising rate sheet for future advertisers. The ad sales staff subsequently contacted all parties that had previously enquired about advertising on the site and told them campaigns could now be booked, including specific targeting by site section and geo location.Within no time, three advertisers booked long running campaigns that resulted in additional ad revenue on top of the AdSense ads. The end result, as Mark described it: “After all the consulting from Erik and the cost of the programmer for inclusion in the site, OpenX paid for itself within the first two months, probably less. We can add, modify and delete ad campaigns in minutes and we can run our own creatives whenever and wherever we want. Without OpenX I would not be able to do any of this and I would not have any of the new advertisers I have now.”
  • MuniWireless.com is the authority on wide-area wireless broadband projects worldwide, including regional and municipal networks. I worked with Rhett Hall from MuniWireless.com and Jennifer Zelazny, Senior Web Developer at Sandbox Development and Consulting Inc. on the integration of OpenX and WordPress, using a feature known as the Source parameter in OpenX to target ads to specific article categories on the website. We also implemented the ‘channels’ feature to make targeting more user-friendly.
  • Goldprice.org is on a mission to provide information on how to buy gold and silver. I worked with Joel Bruce, Managing Director of Goldprice.org in Sydney, Australia, to implement OpenX, including the geotargeting feature to target ads to countries. Recently, we also worked on the implementation of the ‘single page call’ feature in OpenX 2.5 beta, which makes pages load extremely fast when compared to the invocation code created by earlier versions of OpenX.
  • BrooklynVegan is a NYC-centric mostly-music blog that focuses on reporting international news, live show reviews, pictures, tour dates, gossip, tips, MP3′s, videos, and just about anything else a music fan could want. The project involved installation and configuration of the OpenX ad server, administrator training and end-user support.

If you’re interested to discuss your project with me, please just contact me. Even when your project is not included in the examples above. And feel free to ask me for references!
